According to local news reports, the nightclub chain is closing its branch in Watford, which has a 2,500-capacity.

The closure is said to be down to the lease on the building coming to an end in the New Year.

Local estate agents, which are selling the property, reportedly said Pryzm will need to have vacated the site by the January 5.

But Pryzm has said it is still “discussing options” for the site.

Opening back in the 1970s under a different name, the site has been a staple of night life in Watford for decades.

Locals have reacted to the news on social media, sharing the disappointment and fear for the future of the area.

One wrote: “Oh dear, what a f***ing shame.”

Another said: “It’s sad considering we fought for this to stay open, signing petitions and getting it in government. End of an era.”

A third commented: “Watford 2007 was the best for a night out.

“Now just look at the state of it all.”

And fourth wrote: “This is terrible there soon be no where for youngsters to go out.”

One club goer tagged their pal and said: “We need to go before it shuts!”

Another posted: “Gutted. Made a fool out of myself so many times here.”

While one commented: “Really sad to see especially for the young generation who need a local social life like we all had.

“Absolutely lifeless and sterile town now.”

Others reminisced about night outs before the club was taken over by Pryzm.

The legendary site was opened in the 1970s and was called Top Rank, before being renamed Baileys.

One former reveller commented: “It’s all gone, you can’t bring those days back.”

And another said: “Feel lucky to have been there in 70s & 80s saw many a good acts…had a fab time.”

Pryzm currently has 10 locations across the UK including Watford.

Other sites include Portsmouth, Brighton and Bristol.

It comes after a difficult time in the leisure and hospitality industry.

Big brand chains have been closing locations across the country.

Most recently, Britain’s oldest casino closed for the last time after a 195 years in business.

While another town has been dealt a “huge blow” as a Cineworld branch has announced it’s closing.

Elsewhere, a popular Glasgow nightclub announced its shock closure in August – leaving clubbers heartbroken.
